Whole Masoor Dal (Brown Lentils)

Today we will make a simple and delicious recipe of Whole masoor dal. In English it is called whole Brown Lentil with skin. If find washed or peeled lentil they split in two pieces and colour is red or orange.

Whole masoor dal combination with rice is amazing. Even without rice we can eat it.

Let’s start the recipe.

Ingredients

  • Whole Masoor 1cup
  • Oil 4 tbs
  • Onion 1 small size cut
  • Garlic 1 tsp
  • Tomatoes 2 cut
  • Red chilli powder 1 &1/2tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Turmeric 1/2tsp
  • Cumin seeds 1tsp
  • Green chilli 1
  • Coriander 1 bunch cut

Soak lentil in a bowl for 15 minutes before cooking it.

Heat up oil, add the cumin, fry for few seconds.

Then add the cut onion fry it until they get colour light brown.

Add the garlic paste, fry them together.

Keep the flame medium, add the cut tomatoes and fry it.

Cook them until the all ingredients get a bit soft.

Add red chilli powder, Turmeric and salt. Mix properly.

Pour the some water, to prevent the spices from burning.

Add the Masoor dal and fry them for few minutes and add the water, bring it to boil.

If do you like slow cooking cover the pan tight leave it for 30 minutes.

(I usually like to cook the lentil in cooker, so in cooker 10 minute is enough to cook)

Add the green chilli and cut coriander.

Serve with the rice and kachoomer salad.
